Multiplayer Territory War Game | Fall 2023

I've always loved war games. Axis & Allies dominated my life for most of my high school years. Yet Fortress America's high price made it more evasive, so I only was able to enjoy the Milton Bradley product once every year.

Over time, I began to think the game needed a little work. The borders didn't correspond with state lines, I didn't like the idea of a southern front, and the theme needed an update, so I redesigned the game and drew up a new board.

The rules are only partially written down and were certainly not finalized, so the project is mostly trapped inside my memory, but I've always had a nagging desire to return to it, and one day, I will.

Protect the Gem

For my first 3-hour game jam, I attempted a tiny arcade game where a mage had to protect a gem, which kept the lofty island afloat. Unfortunately for our wizarding friend, small flowers keep spawning elemental Meeps (see TTJ) that make a bee-line towards the gem and will destroy it, ending the game. Players can cast magical shields that will destroy Meeps of the same type.

The game at launch barely worked, with the magic working in exactly the opposite way, but I'm proud of what I was able to put together in just 3-hours. Recently, I spent some time polishing it up and uploaded the source files to GitHub.

Time Traveling Janitor

Certainly, my most popular title, Time Traveling Janitor (TTJ), was the first game I developed that frankly felt was fun.

The gimmick was simple, a Banjo-Kazooie style Collection Platformer in 2d. I've always had a soft spot for 2d games that allow for extensive player exploration, and this game follows in that mold.

Looking back there's plenty I desperately want to change. The saving doesn't work, the main menu is ugly, and a lot of the sprites could use a facelift, but unfortunately, the code was corrupted when I sent in my laptop for repairs. Moving forward, I upload files on the cloud regularly to keep this situation from ever repeating.
